The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has dismissed media reports suggesting that it plans to deploy its staff to Ghanaian embassies abroad to offer driver licensing services.

In a statement issued by Management, the Authority described such headlines as misleading and clarified that no DVLA domestic staff will be posted to work in foreign missions.

According to the DVLA, the initiative in question is a collaborative arrangement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed at extending selected licensing services to qualified Ghanaian citizens living outside the country. The services include the issuance of International Driver’s Permits and the renewal of Ghanaian driver’s licences.

The pilot phase of the programme will be carried out through Ghana’s embassies and high commissions in the United States of America, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

Under the implementation plan, embassy staff will be trained by the DVLA to verify applicants’ documents and forward them to the Authority in Ghana for processing. Once completed, the processed documents will be returned to the respective embassies for collection by applicants.

Management stressed that the arrangement is designed to bring DVLA services closer to Ghanaians abroad, reduce non-compliance, and minimize defaults, without expanding the Authority’s staff presence outside the country.

The DVLA reiterated its commitment to serving the interests of Ghanaians both at home and abroad, noting that the initiative aligns with its broader agenda of improving service delivery and accessibility.

The Authority further encouraged media organizations and the general public to seek clarification from its Corporate Affairs Department when in doubt, emphasizing its open-door policy and the need to avoid inaccurate reportage.
