Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Dr. Eric Bossman Asare says the EC has the sole responsibility to compile a new voters register.
His comments come following agitations from other Political parties that they were not informed of the ECs decision to compile a new voters register ahead of the 2020 elections.
The Electoral Commission issued a Statement after an Inter Party Advisory Committee IPAC meeting, stating it decision to compile a new register.
Dr. Bossman Asare said the issue of new register was mentioned at IPAC meeting when they were discussing the upcoming district level elections.
According to the People’s National Convention, (PNC) and the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), the compilation of a new voters’ register for the 2020 general elections was not discussed at the last Inter-Party Advisory (IPAC) meeting.
According to the representatives of the two parties who were at the IPAC meeting last Wednesday, affirmed the decision to compile a new register was only mentioned in passing by Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa.
There was no further deliberation on the matter also because it was not part of the agenda for the day.
