10 high performing Senior High Schools honoured

Citations of merit have been presented to ten high-performing Senior High Schools in the Central region.

At the event, the minister for education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, called on all to make good use of the opportunities presented by the government’s provision of free SHS education for all.

He reminded all that education unlocks many potentials and lays the foundation for a solid future.

The Ministry of Education instituted the award scheme, to motivate second-cycle schools across the country, to strive to achieve the heights of education.

At a presentation in the central region for the top 10 senior high schools, the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum said the free SHS is an opportunity to improve their academic performance.

The vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof Johnson Nyarko Boampong, lauded government for the many educational interventions, which have increased enrollment and called for more support.

The Central Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Madam Martha Owusu Agyemang, commended staff and students in the region for the appreciable level of success during the 2019 – 2020 WASSCE. She said though Cape Coast is touted as a citadel of education, more can be done for the indigenes to be part of the academic experience.

Some students from Wesley Girls High School and St Theresa’s seminary at Emisaano from Elmina were happy to be recognized for their hard work.

The Education Minister, congratulated the top 10 schools in the region, with Wesley Girls High School topping the group, while St Augustine’s College placed second and St Theresa’s Seminary, Emisaano Elmina, coming third best for the region.
