About 92,000 Ghanaians enjoy Gov’t scholarship in 8 years

The Minister of Education has disclosed that the Government has  granted a total of Ninety One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Twenty Three (91,723) scholarship opportunities to  Ghanaians between the years 2012-2020.
According to him, the Scholarship Secretariat from 2012-2020 has awarded a total of
88,140 scholarships which is made up of 6,517 Foreign and 81,623 Local Scholarships.
The Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum said “the total number of scholarships granted Ghanaians by the Scholarship Secretariat and GETFund from 2012 to 2020 is 91,723”.
Responding to a Parliamentary question by Member of Parliament (MP) for Fanteakwa South, Kofi Okyere-Agyekum to ask the Minister the yearly number of scholarships given Ghanaians from January 2012 to December, 2020, the Sector Minister added that “Government over the years has granted scholarship opportunities to citizens at various academic levels”.
On the breakdown of scholarships awarded by the Secretariat from 2012 to 2020, year by year for both foreign tertiary and local tertiary the Minister has this to say:
2012/2013, 673 foreign tertiary and  4,651 local tertiary,
In 2013/2014, 445 foreign tertiary and 4,822  local tertiary.
In 2014/2015, 485 foreign tertiary and  5,462 local tertiary.
In 2015/2016 foreign tertiary and 581 5,746 local tertiary.
In 2016/2017 foreign tertiary and 692 6,482 local tertiary.
In 2017/2018,751foreign tertiary and  11,480 local tertiary.
 In 2018/2019, 1,511 foreign tertiary and  13,980 local tertiary.
In  2019/2020 1,379 foreign tertiary and 29,000 local tertiary.
The total stood at 6, 517 for foreign tertiary and 81, 623 local tertiary.
