The Ministry of Education has launched an investigation into allegations that admission into Aburi Girls’ Senior High School (ABUGISS) can be secured for GH₵15,000.

The claims, circulating on social media and attributed to one Gertrude Adzo Borklo, suggest that placement into the prestigious school is being sold. However, the Ministry insists the allegations are baseless.

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, dismissed the reports, stressing that the Computerized School Placement System (CSSPS) remains free.

“The Ministry views this allegation with the utmost seriousness and has initiated an immediate investigation. At no point is payment required to access placement under the CSSPS,” Dr. Apaak said.

The Ministry revealed that attempts to contact the author of the viral post have been unsuccessful, as her account was deactivated shortly after publication. Officials also warned that anonymous accounts are actively spreading similar falsehoods, feeding into what they called a “conspiratorial narrative.”

To address the matter, the Ministry is collaborating with the National Security Secretariat, the Cyber Security Authority, and other agencies to track down those behind the allegations.

Dr. Apaak further urged the public to report any instances of individuals—whether Ministry staff or third parties—demanding money for placement.

Dedicated hotlines have been set up:

054 154 8223 (Calls)
024 490 8957 (WhatsApp)

“Together, we can safeguard the integrity and transparency of Ghana’s school placement system and weed out unscrupulous persons who seek to profit from this vital national exercise,” Dr. Apaak added.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting the credibility of the placement process, warning that anyone found guilty of extorting money in exchange for placement will face “swift and decisive action.”
