Accra Technical University 70th Anniversary launched

Government has rolled out a roadmap for the implementation of a five year strategic plan for Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Training (TEVET) with the goal to transform the labour force into creating more employment opportunities to enhance productivity.
The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah disclosed this at the launch of the Accra Technical University 70th Anniversary.
The occasion is dubbed “70 years of Innovative, Education, a Path towards Excellence”.
The University which was established in 1949 by the colonial administration started with 15 students in a bungalow.
It was meant to train artisan, craftmen, and copy typists. Since then the Accra Technical University has trained thousands of young men and women in technical fields.
The Accra Technical University is one of the first 6 polytechnics converted into Universities in 2016.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Edmund Ameko disclosed that five new facilities are to be inaugurated as part of the celebration. He spoke of other plans for the university.

The Minister of State In Charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, who launched the 70th Anniversary, said government acknowledges the great potential and  efforts of Technical and Vocational Education in imparting innovative technical education.

Prof. Yankah urged the leadership of the University to continue to perform its mandate as a strategic institution for the training of highly skilled human resource.
