Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has highlighted the need to decongest pre-tertiary institutions to address health concerns.

Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee hearing on January 12, 2026, Dr. Apaak attributed the high rates of urinary tract infections (UTIs), worm infestations, and diarrhoea among students to the increased number of students using limited facilities in schools.

According to him, although talks are in place to increase utilities in schools, the best way to tackle the issue is to decongest.

He recounted the number of times students returned home from school sick, with some death cases recorded, and assured that it would be a thing of the past.
