The Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), Prof. Mohammed Salifu, says the Audit Report of Technical Institutions got to the public domain at a premature stage.

He said that the NCTE did not release the audit to the media but various portions of the audit that related to each of the eight technical universities were extracted and referred to them.

Prof. Mohammed Salifu made this remark to defend the NCTE’s report which states that some lecturers and administrators in Technical Universities do not have the required academic qualifications.

A nationwide audit into the eight technical universities to migrate them on to the conditions of service for Public Universities showed that some of the lecturers were teaching with online degrees which are not accepted by the Council.

‘BEHIND THE NEWS’

In an interview on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’ Prof. Salifu said the staff audit is still work in progress so he will not describe it as the final audit report because it is not complete. The Executive Secretary said he will inform the public when the report is finalized.
