The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region has invested part of its District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) in the construction of educational infrastructure aimed at improving access to quality basic education and increasing school enrolment.
The projects include the construction of two Kindergarten classroom blocks, each with a two-unit urinal, at Yorogo Gaabisi and Aperiga Dorongo. The facilities are expected to provide a conducive learning environment for young children while bringing early childhood education closer to residents in the beneficiary communities.
The Assembly is also building a three-unit classroom block for Kolgu Agusi Junior High School. It has also stepped in to support the completion of a Junior High School (JHS) block at Basiengo after years of inadequate school infrastructure. The facility comprises an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory and library, a staff common room, a store, and a head teacher’s office.
To improve sanitation and hygiene, the Assembly has also provided four-seater KVIP toilet facilities and two-unit urinals for boys and girls in the two KG blocks.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Roland Ayoo Atanga, inspected the projects and expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of work. He commended the contractors for executing the projects to the expected standard.
Mr. Atanga said the Assembly remains committed to investing in education because it is essential to the development of the municipality. He noted that the new Kindergarten blocks were strategically located to reduce the distance young children travel to school and encourage more parents to enroll their children.
“This is to show that the NDC as a party and the reset agenda of President John Mahamais on course. We just want to deliver and improve the condition of the people who entrusted power to us. These schools will soon be handed over to GES for them to be put into good use,” Mr. Atanga stressed.
The Bolgatanga Municipal Head of Works, Ingineer Richard P. Mensah, said the projects, each costing over GH¢700,000, were undertaken in response to the needs assessment of the people.
“The Yorogo Gaabisi area has been without a KG block for a very long time. They have been occupying a structure over there. So during our needs assessment, it became necessary that we build one here.” He explained.
The Assembly says it will continue to prioritize education and other essential social infrastructure as part of efforts to improve the living standards of residents across the municipality.
