Educational accountants within the Ghana Education Service (GES) have been urged to uphold institutional systems and structures to promote effective management, accountability and improved service delivery.
The Regional Accountant and Patron of the Educational Accountants Association of Ghana, Mr. Jomo Atariboro, made the call at a three-day regional conference and refresher workshop for educational accountants held in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

Mr. Atariboro cautioned accountants against excessive interference in established systems, warning that weakening the structures of the GES could have negative consequences for workers themselves. He urged participants to understand and properly utilize existing systems, stressing that they were designed to guide their work and ensure the effective operation of the Service.

Madam Akantuesiba Evelyn, an accountant at OLL Girls Senior High School in Navrongo, described the conference as inspiring and impactful. She said the refresher training had improved participants’ knowledge of handling auditors, responding to audit queries and addressing institutional challenges. She appealed for a review of allowances and increased financial support for refresher programmes, citing rising transportation, accommodation and feeding costs.

The Regional Education Director, Mr. Abdul Razak Korah, commended organizers and participants for their commitment to professional development.
He described the conference as timely and urged educational accountants to strengthen collaboration with school heads and management to address challenges and improve the overall performance of the GES.
