Education Minister assures challenges confronting SHS education will be fixed

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has assured Heads of Senior High Schools, that government is making frantic efforts to address the myriad of challenges affecting school management.

According to him, government appreciates very well the difficulties Heads of the Schools are confronted with, in keeping the schools running unhindered, especially, those providing Boarding Services.

Dr. Adutwum in an interview with Correspondent Nicholas Osei-Wusu in Kumasi, said his Ministry has identified the irregular supply of foodstuffs for the upkeep of boarding students, as a major challenge and gave the assurance that the problem is being given serious attention.

Touching on the Double Track Component of the Free Senior High Programme, the Education Minister, said,”though not all the Public Second Cycle Schools in the country, run the Programme, government’s efforts are yielding positive results, such that very soon the system could phase out for a return to the previous Single Stream Educational System’’.

Dr. Adutwum expressed empathy with teachers particularly Headmasters and Headmistresses who have had to sacrifice their vacations, so that the schools can run uninterrupted sessions.
