Minister nominee for Education Dr. Yaw Adutwum insists that schools remain open despite reports of a spike in COVID-19 cases among students. According to him, as long as the COVID-19 safety protocols are followed, the schools remain safer for students than the community.
His statement comes on the back of a report by Childs Right International which shows that more than 1,000 students have been infected with the virus since schools reopened barely a month ago.
Again, despite the provision of handwashing equipment and sanitizers, most students use it wrongly, raising fears of more infection.
Answering questions during his vetting in Parliament, Dr. Adutwum said the situation rather calls for more training of teachers and caretakers to ensure that the protocols are followed in the right way.
