The future of more than one thousand children from seventeen communities in the Chereponi district of the Northern Region hangs in the balance following communal clashes a year ago.
Schools in the area remain closed as teachers who fled the conflict are yet to return.
At Tegenga, one of the affected communities, children were seen loitering around.
The Assemblyman for the area, Joseph Naambi Baanib disclosed that up to three hundred children are affected in the area alone and all attempts to get teachers to return have proved futile.
A pastor and community leader in Chereponi, James  Azumah, corroborated the Assemblyman’s assertion.
He said about seventeen basic schools in the area are affected.
A visit to the schools revealed that school infrastructure needs urgent attention even if teachers accept to return to the affected communities.
Most of the classrooms have no roofs, while some buildings have either collapsed or burnt. Meanwhile, the only health center remains closed.
