President Akufo-Addo has announced that all 584,000 final year JHS students across the country are to receive one hot meal a day.

The decision stems from complaints from students about going hungry in an attempt to fully comply with COVID-19 preventive protocols.

President Akufo-Addo instructed the Minister for Gender and Social Protection to begin preparation to ensure that as from August 24 up to September 18, all final year JHS students and 146,000 staff both in public and private schools are given one hot meal a day.

This is to ensure full adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols.

President Akufo-Addo has also rejected accusations that his government is providing “freebies” instead of sustainable jobs to Ghanaians.

His comments come after former president Mahama accused him of providing free things instead of jobs.

He said in times of crises, it is the duty of a responsible and sensitive government to protect the population, and provide relief.
