The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has described the free second cycle education policy as a laudable decision in the history of the country to offer every Ghanaian child the opportunity to obtain education to the Senior High School level.

According to him, the policy is one of the bravest decisions taken by any government in the country’s history with life-changing ramifications for all families now and decades to come.

Addressing Heads of Public Senior High Schools at their 56th Annual Conference in Kumasi, Otumfuo Osei Tutu noted that there were several attempts by governments in the pre and post-independence era to introduce similar programmes. However the 1992 Constitution has made room for such a policy.

Drawing attention to the circumstances that led to the introduction of shift system at the basic level as well as the commencement of the Medical School under a tree at the Korle-Bu in Accra, the Asantehene said the planned double tracking system is nothing new in Ghana’s educational system.

He said government with a clear mandate by majority of Ghanaians, now has no excuse to fail in the implementation of the new educational policy.
