French Quiz for selected Senior and Junior High Schools held in Eastern Region

The French Anchor Ghana, a non-governmental and educational organization based in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service has organized a French Quiz Competition for Junior and Senior High Schools in the Lower, Upper Manya Krobo and Asuogyamang Municipalities.

The JHS level featured Nuaso St. Clement R/C, Atua St. Paul Presby and Our Lady of Fatima International Basic Schools all in Lower Manya while the Senior High featured Asesewa Senior High in the Upper Manya, Manya Krobo Senior High School in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality and Akwamu Senior High School in the Asuogyamang Municipality at the finals.

The Regional Unit Head for Centre for the Teaching of French, CREF, Robert Noutsoukpoe addressing the students noted that previously he there was the teaching and learning of French in the schools, but, the results have not been impressive, due to the methodology adopted.

Mr. Noutsoukpoe stated that currently the goal is to equip the students with core competencies and essential skills which includes, the learning and the teaching of French.

The Director of French Anchor Ghana, Gideon Edo noted that the competition is to equip the students with practical communication skills in the French Language which will help the teaching and learning of French in the Basic and the Senior High Schools.

At the end of the competition at the Basic School level, Our Lady of Fatima International School emerged victorious with Atua St. Paul Presby Basic School being second and Nuaso St. Clement R/C occupying the third position.

While in the Senior High School contest, Manya Krobo Sen. High emerged victorious with two-point margin ahead of Akwamuman SHS with Asesewa SHS occupying the third position.

Some of the winning students shared their views andcsaid the competition should be replicated in all schools.

The French Quiz Competition was held in comprehension, History of Ghana, Mathematics, Drama, among others.

The winning school at the SHS level received a cash prize of five hundred cedis with books and packages from indomie while at the JHS level the winning school took home four hundred cedis with books and packages from indomie.
