The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that candidates awaiting their 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results will select their preferred Senior High Schools (SHSs) and other second-cycle institutions from Monday, July 20, to Friday, August 7, 2026, under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The dates were communicated in a circular issued by the GES Headquarters in Accra as part of preparations for this year’s school placement exercise.
“Please note that the BECE candidates will start selecting their schools from Monday 20th July to Friday, 7th August, 2026,” the circular stated.
To support the process, GES will also organise a nationwide training and sensitisation programme for Regional, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education on the 2026 school selection guidelines and placement procedures.
The training is scheduled to run from Wednesday, July 15, to Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the various Regional Education Offices across the country.
According to a circular dated July 6, 2026, the exercise is aimed at equipping education directors with a clearer understanding of the school selection guidelines to enable them to effectively supervise the process.
“This training and sensitization exercise is intended to provide deeper insight into the selection guidelines and enable you to offer effective oversight throughout the exercise,” the Service said.
The circular, signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division (Secondary), on behalf of the Director-General of GES, noted that participants would receive a detailed programme and attendance list ahead of the training.
Regional Directors have also been directed to notify all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education within their jurisdictions and ensure they participate fully in the exercise.
The annual school selection exercise is a key stage of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System, which places qualified BECE candidates into Senior High Schools, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and other second-cycle schools across the country.
GES expects the sensitisation programme to help education managers provide accurate guidance to candidates, parents and guardians, reduce errors during school selection, and promote a consistent application of the placement guidelines nationwide.
