Director for the Girls’ Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Benedicta Seidu has stated that GES would resort to the use of laid down administrative procedure to probe reported cases of its officers who are purported to have breached the Professional Code of Conduct.

She is therefore calling on the public to serve as whistle-blowers and to report any misconduct of its staff to the GES hierarchy, for the necessary actions to be taken.

Madam Seidu made the call following a reported case of alleged rape involving a School Improvement Support Officer, and a 16-year-old girl in the KassenaNankana Municipality of the Upper East Region.

She stated that the Girls’ Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service has resolved to be resilient in the pursuit of justice and called on the security agencies to double their efforts at in prosecuting offenders of sexual abuse.

“As for GES, we don’t tolerate sexual abuse, but if people don’t report how would we know. It takes someone to give the information then we will use our admirative procedures to deal with those who breach our code of conduct. Whoever sees a crime and doesn’t report is aiding and abetting. Law enforcement agencies should try as much as possible to ensure that children are protected.”

The Upper East Regional Girls’ Education Coordinator, Rose Akanson described as frustrating, the number of sexual abuse cases in the Region that remains unresolved due to interference.

“I have had many cases about defilement, incest, rape cases and justice has not been served as expected. Rape cases, and it is frustrating in our region. Any time such cases are reported, a lot of people want the cases to be withdrawn. I don’t know whether to blame our institutions or we are not very enlightened. I believe the authorities sometimes side with the politicians and then the cases die,” the Girls Education Coordinator bemoaned.
