The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it has not given any company, whether local or international, the contract to print its new approved uniforms.

The GES is therefore urging the public to disregard news that the Service has imported the uniforms into the country.

Speaking to GBC’s Gloria Anderson, the Head of Public Relations of the GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo insisted that the news is baseless and has no merit.

Earlier, the General Secretary of the Textiles Workers Union, Abraham Koomson, expressed worry over the alleged importation of the new uniforms introduced by the Ghana Education Service.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Mr. Koomson explained that government contracted Akosombo Textiles Limited, ATL to come out with new uniforms for public schools nationwide.

He therefore finds it difficult to understand why government will encourage the importation of the uniform to the detriment of ATL.

Mr. Koomson added that attempts to seek clarification on the matter from the Ministry of Trade has proved futile.
