GES Directors not satisfied with quality of food served pupils

Municipal and District Directors of the Ghana Education Service in the Upper East Region have expressed dissatisfaction with the quality and quantity of meals served pupils in basic schools under the School Feeding Programme across the Region.

They said the meals are of poor quality and lack the relevant nutrients required to address the nutritional needs of the children. The Directors, including other stakeholders, said even though they are concerned about the poor quality of food served, they cannot complain of fear of victimization.

According to them, the School Feeding Programme is managed by some political activists of the ruling government which makes it difficult for authorities in the schools on the programme to express their feelings.

These concerns were made known during an open discussion at a Regional stakeholder engagement on the roll-out of nutrition intervention for school children and adolescents in Bolgatanga.

The programme brought together Regional, Municipal and District Directors of the Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Education Service including traditional authorities and the media.

The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Bonaba Baba SalifuLemyaarum, said issues of nutrition are significant for the well-being of all humans.

He was elated that the engagement targeted children and urged other traditional leaders to ensure that the roll-out of nutrition intervention for school children and adolescents become successful.
