The Ghana Education Service (GES) has for the second time suspended the monthly deduction of ten Ghana cedis from teachers’ salaries towards the GES-SIC Life Insurance policy.

The GES said the suspension is just for this month but it will resume next month.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra, the Director-General of GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa said the decision to join the policy is voluntary and all uninterested staff can opt out.

He said the GES has already engaged Teacher Unions on the issue and so it does not expect any agitations in the wake of the deductions.
