The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) will commit GH¢50 million every other year to support disability and inclusive education across the country.

‎Speaking at the launch of the Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities in Accra on Friday October 24, 2025, Mr. Iddrisu said the initiative forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to ensure equality, inclusivity, and access to quality education for all, especially persons with disabilities.

‎He noted that President Mahama’s commitment to inclusivity demonstrates his compassion and dedication to supporting vulnerable groups in society. “President Mahama is not only fulfilling a major campaign promise but also showing Ghanaians once again that he is a compassionate leader who believes that disability is not inability,” the minister said.

‎Mr. Iddrisu revealed that the GETFund has been directed to allocate GH¢50 million every other year from now until 2028 to finance disability-related interventions and inclusive education programs. This, he said, will go a long way to support educational facilities, scholarships, and accessibility projects for students with disabilities.

‎He further commended the GETFund administrators and the Ministry’s team for their dedication to advancing inclusive education and ensuring that no Ghanaian child is left behind because of a disability.

‎The Minister also expressed appreciation to Deputy Minister Clement Apaak  and  Joseph Atsu, who Co-chaired the committee that developed the roadmap for the disability education policy.

‎He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to build a fair and inclusive education system where opportunities are provided based on equity and not circumstance.
