The Ghana School of Railways and Infrastructure Development has started operations under the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, offering only engineering courses. The first batch of about 300 students reported to the school last week.

Over the next four years, the school is looking to admit about five thousand students. The successful opening of the Railway University is one of the key legacies of the Minister of Railways Development, Joe Ghartey in 2017.

Mr. Ghartey signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa to develop the Railways Training School into an accredited Institution of higher learning for the award of certificates and Diplomas.

The collaboration is also aimed at transforming the Railways Training School into a degree awarding University.

It seeks to become a world-class railway institution dedicated to professional excellence in rail transport management.
