Ghana’s tertiary institutions re-open after months of closure

Tertiary institutions in Ghana will start re-opening today (January 9,2021) after they were closed for some months as part of measures to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is in compliance with President Akufo-Addo’s directive in his last televised address to the nation, during which he announced dates for the re-opening of schools.

The decision for tertiary institutions to re-open this month (January 2021), he said, was made because government and its stakeholders are satisfied that, the re-opening of schools is safe although more safety measures would be put in place.

In March last year (2020), the President ordered the closure of all schools.

Many of the universities have either completed registration of students for the semester or rounding up while fumigation and disinfection are still ongoing on some campuses.
