The 1990-year group of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), has disclosed its intention to support the development of the institution.
Governance Expert and Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Faculty of Law, Dr. Kwaku Anane-Gyinde made this known on GTV’s Breakfast Show.
According to Dr. Anane-Gyinde, who is also an alumnus of GIJ, the initiative includes bringing on board well-to-do alumni of the university to contribute their quota to support the school. He also noted that the school has produced many prominent personalities as the first journalism institute in Africa.
“We have a lot of prominent Ghanaians who passed through the institution. Remember, it is the first journalism institute in the whole of Africa. So we have colleagues from Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria. If you go to Nigeria, most of the senior editors of the newspapers and radio are all products of GIJ,” he stated on Monday, August 15, 2022.
He, therefore, appealed to his colleagues and other stakeholders to help support the school.
“GIJ gave you something, so please give something back,” Dr. Anane Gyinde added.
The first president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah, envisioned training patriotic journalists to play an effective role in the emancipation of the African continent, hence the establishment of GIJ on October 16, 1959.
