The fate of at least 60 students of the Prince of Peace Junior High School was tampered with as they were denied access to the ongoing 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), due to the inability of the proprietor of the school to register them.

The 28-year-old co-proprietor Sulemana Saeed has been arrested and is assisting in police investigation following complaints made by students and parents.

Speaking on the Uniiq Breakfast Drive, GBC’s Northern Regional Correspondent Mutalah Issah said the reason behind the proprietor’s failure to register the pupils is yet to be established as the issue is still under investigation.

According to Mutalah, Mr. Sulemana led the students to the examination center indicating that they were registered but later the students found out that their index numbers were not at the center.

The students according to reports became furious and manhandled Mr. Sulemana who failed to register them upon receiving a sum of GH¢500.00 each as registration fee.

The timely intervention of the police helped to avert any horrible situation.

Correspondent Mutalah Issah noted that, the first day of the examination was successful as materials arrived on time amidst tight security for the start of the examination.

He added that, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa also visited the various examination Centers to inspire the candidates.

The Basic Education Certificate Examination started nationwide on Monday 4th June, 2018.
