The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), has asked government to re-open schools because the closure is affecting its members.
President of the Association, Damascus Tuurosung told GBC’s Radio Ghana in an interview that the Covid-19 pandemic is not ending anytime soon, therefore schools must find ways of operating in the midst of the virus.
“Learners need to develop an appetite for academic work but for sitting idle home at home, they have lost that appetite to learn. Moreover, that climate of learning is also taken off and there are many lapses going to affect progress when schools eventually reopen. So we are advocating that it’s time to get back.”
A Teacher affected by the closure, Ying Simon added his voice to calls for the government to come to their aid saying they have not been paid since March.
“It was in March that schools were closed down and since then, we have not been paid our salaries because the private institutions are not in good shape to pay us. Government should come out with measures that would alleviate the plight of the private schools by giving us a package that can ameliorate our plights.”
