Bishop of the Northern Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Edusah-Eyison has encouraged the speaking of Ghanaian languages in schools.

He said Ghanaians need to be literate in their mother tongues.

He admonished the practice where teachers caution students against speaking vernacular in school.

Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Edusah-Eyison

Rt. Rev. Prof. Edusah-Eyison said Ghana will experience growth if it promotes the use of local languages in all spheres.

He was speaking at the First Biennial Diocesan Delegates Conference of the Northern Accra Association of Methodist Brigades in Accra.

Speaking on the theme ‘Intensifying our Teaching Ministry Towards Disciple Making: Young people in focus’, Rt. Rev. Prof. Edusah-Eyison said disciple making is practical and engaging.

He said this can be achieved if people are spoken to in a language that they can understand.

He expressed worry that the youth no longer have interest in speaking their mother tongues. He encouraged the Brigaders to be responsible and show exemplary life styles.

The Diocesan Coordinator, John Adofo recommended the setting up of a security company by the church to create employment for the youth and to improve security in churches.

A special fund, the Diocesan Evangelism Fund was launched to among other things help train members of the Northern Accra Diocese Association of the Methodist Brigade to acquire employable skills.
