In a bid to improve menstrual health management and promote girls’ education, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced in the 2026 Budget Statement that the government has allocated GH¢292 million to provide free sanitary pads for schoolgirls across Ghana.
The initiative aims to ensure that no girl misses school due to lack of access to menstrual hygiene products, reinforcing the government’s commitment to gender equality in education.
“This allocation reflects our dedication to supporting the well-being of young women and removing barriers to learning,” Dr. Forson said during his budget presentation in Parliament.
The move is expected to benefit millions of schoolgirls nationwide, empowering them to fully participate in classroom activities and reduce dropout rates linked to menstrual challenges.
