The National School Feeding Programme says it has taken note of complaints raised by some BECE candidates and their teachers over the quality of the hot meal per day.
The provision of hot meal a day follows President Akufo Addo’s promise that all 584,000 final year JHS students across the country will be fed with a hot meal daily.
The promise stems from complaints from students about going hungry in an attempt to fully comply with COVID-19 preventive protocols.
With Monday, August 24, being day one of the provision of the meal, there were complaints about the quality of food served the students and in some cases others rejected the food.
However, speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, the Public Relations Officer of the School Feeding Programme, Alfa Siba said the issue will be addressed.
Meanwhile, a visit to some Junior High Schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality by GBC’s Samuel Ayammah showed that caterers were poised to prepare meals for the beneficiary candidates.
More than 600 caterers have been commissioned to cook. The meals are to be prepared under strict hygienic conditions with foodstuff and ingredients sourced locally from their areas. The schools visited included the Bolgatanga Methodist JHS, St. John’s JHS in Bolgatanga and St. Clement JHS.
In an interview with Radio Ghana, the Upper East Regional Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Georgina Ayamba, said she will ensure that the exercise is carried out successfully.
