The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has cautioned parents, guardians and candidates against paying money to individuals who claim they can secure or change Senior High School (SHS) placements.
Speaking at a press briefing today, Dr. Apaak stressed that the 2026 SHS placement process is absolutely free, warning the public not to fall victim to individuals demanding payment in exchange for placement assistance.
“School placement is absolutely free. No parent, no guardian, no candidate should pay money to any individual,” he said.
He explained that the warning applies to anyone claiming to be an official of the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, a school official, an intermediary or any other third party offering to secure or alter a candidate’s placement for a fee.
According to Dr. Apaak, there is no legitimate placement protocol that requires candidates or their families to make payments to secure or change a placement.
He noted that placement is determined by established criteria, candidates’ choices, programme requirements and the availability of vacancies.
To address challenges that may arise during the placement process, the Ministry of Education has established placement resolution centres in Accra and at the regional levels where candidates, parents and guardians can report placement-related concerns and seek assistance.
The Deputy Minister urged the public to rely on official channels and the designated resolution centres for all enquiries relating to the placement process, rather than dealing with intermediaries or individuals who demand payment.
