School in East Mamprusi lacks furniture

By: Maltiti Sayida Sadick
The Awalia E/A primary school located in Gambaga in the East Mamprusi district of the North East region, with a total number of 186 pupils has no furniture.

The result is that, pupils from kindergarten one to Primary five lie prostrate on the floor on their stomachs in a way that can be likened to ‘lizards on a wall’ to learn.

Students write on the bare floor with chalk as they are being taught from a blackboard which has turned into a white board with time.

Their uniforms become dirty from their prostration on the floor and pupils are exposed to illnesses associated with inhalation of dust and other bronchial conditions.

The lack of adequate classrooms and furniture has forced the teachers to combine Kindergarten one, two and primary one.

The School, established in 1975 is under the Ghana Education Service Islamic unit and has not received any infrastructural assistance since, the problem started in 2016.

GTV Breakfast Show highlighted the plight of students and the School on Thursday, June 30 2022.
