The school which is a community initiative lacks classrooms for students as the available ones are dilapidated and have become a death trap.

The headmaster has been forced to move his office “to under a tree’ because the current space has been taken over by other administrative staff .It is also the place where food stuff meant for the school feeding programme are kept. These came to light at the annual NabaYesika festival by the chiefs and people of Sherigu.

Naba Yesika Festival is a period where the chief goes into seclusion for a minimum of three months in fulfilment of a traditional convention. This seclusion period usually starts from August through to November each farming season and is always accompanied with a ban on noise making.

Aside from its cultural and religious significance, it is a post-harvest festival to give thanks to the gods after a successful harvest. The Chief of Dorongo, Naba Afayuure Akazie, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Divisional Chief of Sherigu, Naba Aluman Apasinaba, called on government to provide the community some basic amenities including education and construction of a dam.

The Headmaster of Sherigu Day Senior High School, Anthony Adimazoya, enumerated the challenges confronting the school.

Meanwhile, almost all the roads linking the market centers of the communities are in a deplorable state. Sherigu is a farming community with a population of over five thousand.
