The Ministry of Education has granted students an additional week to complete the 2026 Senior High School (SHS) placement exercise, as efforts continue to resolve outstanding cases before schools reopen on September 18.
The extension is intended to give students who are yet to secure placements through self-placement, as well as those seeking changes to their residential status, more time to complete the process.
Resolution centres nationwide will continue operating from Monday to Friday to assist students and families with unresolved placement concerns.
Press Secretary to the Education Minister, Hashmin Mohammed, said that considerable progress had been made in addressing the challenges.
According to him, 33,726 of the 53,887 students eligible for self-placement had so far secured places in various schools.
He said the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat had also dealt with 4,531 of the 9,948 cases brought before resolution centres nationwide.
Mr Mohammed explained that the remaining cases were expected to reduce significantly during the additional week, ahead of the September 18 reporting date.
“We are hoping that by Friday, the numbers should be able to go down because on September 18, they will report to school,” he said.
The Ministry is therefore urging students with outstanding placement concerns to use the extension period and visit the designated resolution centres for assistance.
