Teacher Unions declare nationwide strike over demand for Cost of Living Allowance

Four Teacher Union have declared an indefinite nationwide strike starting on Monday, July 4. The teachers are striking over demands for the payment of Cost of Living Allowance.

The unions comprising the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT, National Association of Graduate Teachers, NAGRAT, Teachers and Educational Workers Unions (TEWU), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT) are demanding 20 percent of their basic be paid to them as ‘COLA’

Speaking at a Joint News Conference, the General Secretary of the GNAT, Thomas Musah said teachers can no longer bear the hardship and the inequality of salaries in the Public Services.

By this announcement, the teachers have withdrawn all services in the Pre-tertiary Education Space.

The various leaders of the Association directed their members to obey the latter conditions of the strike.
