The Teacher Trainees Association has given the government a 3-week ultimatum to settle all areas owed them or face their wrath.
The teacher trainees say the delay over the unpaid allowances is having serious implications on them. The trainees numbering more than 50 thousand say the government owes them 6 months allowances which amounts to GHC 1, 200 each. President of the Association Dimbie Abdul Manan told GBC News some of his members were unable to write their examinations because the allowance which they depend on to pay fees had been delayed.
“We have had constant engagements with the stakeholders concerning our allowances right from January until now. Recently, we were assured that the allowances will be paid before the end of September. So we are giving the government a 3 week ultimatum to honor the promise of paying the allowances because most of us depend on it for survival, even to pay fees. Some of our colleagues were driven out of the exam hall because they could not pay their fees”, he said.
Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education Akwasi Kwarteng said the Ministry of Finance will soon respond to the Association.
“The Ministry of Education does not make payments, that is done by the Ministry of Finance and last time we checked with them they were processing payments but I am unable to confirm the stage they have gotten to”, he noted.
