Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo says government is embarking on a comprehensive strategy to create a chain between the lower level Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions and the Technical Universities.

This is to ensure that the young Ghanaian will have a clear path of skills acquisition and development towards nation-building. Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo made this known at the 17th Congregation of Kumasi Technical University in Kumasi.

Kumasi Technical University has been adjudged the best Technical University in the country for the second year running and eighth-best among all the 68 Universities also in the country. This has been attributed to the redesigning of the academic programmes of the institution, placing more emphasis on acquisition of practical skills, entrepreneurship and industrial training to meet global and industry demands.

At the 17th Congregation of Kumasi Technical University, a total of two thousand 793 students who completed in the 2020/2021 academic year were awarded with certificates. The programme categories were Master of Technology, Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma, Professional Diploma, Ordinary Diploma and the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training Diploma.

Among those who received special awards for distinguishing themselves was the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Professor Ben Baffoe Bonnie. He was honoured for his contribution to the growth and development of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor, Engineer Professor Osei-Wusu Achaw said in spite of the enormous support the University receives from the Government, it is still saddled with some challenges.

Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo restated the Government’s quest to make Technical and Vocational Education and Training more attractive by retooling institutions with the needed equipment for training young Ghanaians.
