Work on the construction of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET is progressing steadily at Tolibri in the Lawra Municipality of the Upper West Region.

The project is one among the nine being executed by the government under the first phase of the 32 state-of-the-art Technical Institutes across the country.

Speaking to GBC News at Lawra, the Municipal Chief Executive for Lawra, Jacob Domekakpier Dery said he is satisfied with the level of work done so far.

Mr Dery said he has visited the site on several occasions to inspect the project and is optimistic that the project will meet the time scheduled for completion.

The Vice President in June this year cut the sod for work to begin on the construction of the first batch of the 32 state-of–the-art TVET projects across the country. The phase one which comprises nine schools is expected to be completed in 24 months.

The project is aimed at increasing the employment opportunities of the youth in technical education especially for those in the rural areas.

The MCE for Lawra, Jacob Domekakpier Dery noted that the project when completed will not only help the Municipality but the country as a whole. He said once the project is completed it will employ people including teachers, non-teaching staff, and create a business avenue for the local community.

He commended the chiefs and people of Meth, Tuma and Tolibri for releasing their land for the project and assured them of consideration during recruitment after the project is completed.

He said the state-of-the-art technical training will reduce the theoretical system of education which is not helping the country.

He said many have completed social Programmes at the tertiary level but are still banking their hopes on the government for employment which is not possible.

Mr Dery said the government alone cannot employ all who complete various forms of education but with the technical training, people can acquire skills and training to set up their own businesses.

The development will also open up the community because it will go along with some social amenities like, health center, water, electricity among others. The MCE said the project is the government’s deliberate attempt to ensure that technical and vocational education is developed in Ghana.
