Three Unions of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale campus have declared an indefinite strike over delays in the payment of the July salaries among other grievances.

The Unions include the University’s branches of the Ghana Association of University Administrators, Senior Staff Association of the University, and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union.

The striking staff are also unhappy with management over the decision to migrate staff of the University to the Controller and Accountant General’s Pay System without consulting staff.

The development left some past and current students stranded as they could not access administrative services including the authentication of certificates and printing of transcripts.

Some of the past students came from Tamale and as far as Koforidua, but were left stranded.

Sources at the University say government has not paid subvention to the university since January, forcing the University to use its internally generated funds.

At the time of leaving the University, some management members told GBC News that, salaries have been processed and that, staff should get their pay by Friday.
