The National Secretariat of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has been discussing the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy and the double track system in Cape Coast.
Panelists agreed to the idea of the free SHS, policy though there were divergent opinions on how it is being implemented.
While some believe, the policy is being implemented the way it should, given the circumstances the country currently finds itself, others are of the view that it could have been implemented differently.
Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor George Oduro said the double track is one of the best interventions to manage accommodation problems. However, consequences on University education should be critically looked at.
Professor Nana Afia Opoku-Asare who is from the Department of Education, KNUST noted the challenge the policy poses is not one that the Universities cannot deal with.
She believes, under the circumstances, the Universities are already finding solutions to the infrastructural challenges and does not foresee any other problems.
