The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed three temporary electoral officials for misconduct during the voters registration exercise at the Sagnarigu Municipality.

This follows theft of voter registration forms meant for the ongoing registration exercise from its District Office, according to the EC, by a Polling Agent of one of the Political Parties.

The three temporary electoral officials were manning the registration kits at the District Office.

A statement signed by the EC said on Saturday, July 4, 2020, the Commission was formally notified of the theft at the Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern region.

It said the EC will not shield any staff; permanent or temporary, who engages in misconduct during the registration exercise.

The statement also said, “the said Polling agent by name Alhassan Abdullai Mohammed has been apprehended by the Police and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

It urged the public to report any misconduct that violates the guidelines governing the exercise.

“We urge the public to draw the Electoral Commission’s attention to acts of misconduct that tend to violate the protocols and guidelines put in place to govern the voters registration exercise.”
