The Awoamefia of Anlo State, Togbui Sri has reiterated the need for government to expedite action in the execution of oil exploration and drilling in the Keta Basin as well as construction of a habour at Keta.

He was hopeful that the projects will be the turning point for industrialisation in the Anlo State and in effect deal with unemployment which is taking a toll among his people.

Togbui Sri was speaking at the climax of this year’s Hogbetsotso Za by the chiefs and people of Anlo State at Anloga.

Hogbetsotso Za is marked annually by the Chiefs and people of Anlo State to commemorate the historic journey of their ancestors from Nortsie in the Republic of Togo to their present location.

It is also to honour their ancestors for their bravery and zeal to liberate themselves from the oppression and denial of basic human rights during the reign of a tyrant King called Agorkoli.

This year’s celebration was well attended by Anlos and dignitaries including the President of the National House of Chiefs and Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede and Former President John Dramani Mahama.

Togbui Sri said the hopes of his people to see the oil exploration and drilling in the Keta Basin and construction of a habour at Keta is turning into despair as promises by government have not materialised.

He therefore prompted government to put in place the requisite measures to start the projects which according to him is his wish to see come to fruition in his lifetime.

Togbui Sri also urged government to consider the establishment of a tomato factory in the area to deal with post harvest losses due to non existing storage facilities for tons of vegetables produced annually.

Togbe Sri called on his people to unite and rally behind him to build upon the legacy of their forebears.

The Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede reiterated his call for the upcoming referendum to create new regions to be conducted in a manner that will not disenfranchised some citizens of the affected regions.

This according to him will be a denial of their rights to participate in issues that affects them. Togbe Afede nullified assertions that the same process for the upcoming referendum has been used in other jurisdictions, saying that the due process must be followed for peaceful resolution.

The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi who represented President Nana Akufo-Addo pledged to channel the concerns of the people to the appropriate quarters to be resolved.
