First Lady launches Year of Reading Campaign

The First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo has launched the year of reading campaign which seeks to reignite the passion for reading in Ghana.
The year long campaign which will also mark 70 th anniversary of the Ghana library Authority will see the commissioning of an ultra modern children’s library, creation of digital library on IOS and Android devices, reading competitions and the relaunch of the mobile library services.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo said current statistics which show that only a small percentage of children can read and write effectively is appalling and called for the incorporation of libraries in the construction of schools.
The First Lady who is passionate about reading asked the Ghana Education School and heads of schools to ensure that newly built schools have libraries.
The Deputy Minister of Education Dr Yaw Adutwum who was concerned about the statistics said government through the ministry is working to improve the reading culture in the country.
