Workers of public institutions who were given break during the Christmas festivities were expected to officially resume today. However, a visit by Radio Ghana to the Ministries in Accra revealed that only a few workers were at post.

The place was unusually quiet, signaling the holiday period for some civil servants would extend further.

The first place visited was the Ministry of Information, where a handful of workers were seen going about their work. Some of them believed work would pick up from next week.

At the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection an official told Radio Ghana that though most of the workers were at post, some are yet to report. The official added that work was put on hold during the break and must be continued in earnest.

The slow start of work was not different at the Ministry of Education. Here, only a few workers were seen in their offices. Speaking to Radio Ghana, some workers attributed the low turn out to people who traveled out of the capital during the holidays.

The visit also revealed that most hawkers around the place are also yet to resume from the Christmas holidays.
