Form 1 & 2 students of Binduri SHS to return to school on Monday

By: Peter Agengre

First and Second year students of the Binduri Senior High School (SHS) in the Upper East Region are expected back in school next week Monday.

School authority says the caterer has been contacted and she would be back on campus to provide them with the hot meal. At a management meeting at the office of the District Director of Education, all is set for the students to return to school.

The students of Binduri Community Senior High School in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region were on Tuesday asked to go home after they staged a protest against management of the school. According to the students, the school’s caterer stopped cooking for them since 29th May, 2023.

This compelled them to study on empty stomachs. Some of the students told GBCNews that the executives of the Students Representatives Council have made frantic efforts to reach her via phone but they were unsuccessful.

They also raised issues of a locked up toilet facility, lack of text books and P.E attire for SHS ones that have not been given to them since they reported to school.

The headmaster of the school was out of campus at the time of their protest and it took the intervention of the Binduri District Director of Education Mr. John Jaggrey Soka to restore calm.

After an emergency management meeting held on Thursday, Mr. Soka disclosed that “the school’s caterer has agreed to resume cooking for the students and has asked the students to return to school on Monday. I am by this medium urging parents and guidance to prepare their children to return to school on Monday next week.”

Mr. Soka also assured the students that his office and the school’s management have contacted the suppliers to make available their books and P.E attire.

He has also promised his readiness to liaise with the District Assembly for them to complete their toilet facility for use.
