Former President Mahama presents PPE, CSM drugs to Upper West Region

In a bid to prevent the further spread of the Coronavirus and manage the recent cases of CSM in the Upper West Region, Former President John Dramani Mahama has presented Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and CSM injections (ceftriaxone) to the Upper West Regional Health Directorate.

The items include, one thousand surgical gloves and hundred face mask, 50 pieces of Gum Boots, 50 Pieces of Coverall and one thousand pieces of ceftriaxone for the CSM injections.

A former Member of the Council of State, Sir Dr. Edward Gyader who made the presentation on behalf of the former President at Wa said the Upper West Region is fighting two battles in respect of CSM and COVID-19.

The donation is aimed at supporting frontline workers towards managing the COVID-19 disease devastating nations globally and CSM in the Upper West Region. Mr. Mahama, who is also the Standard-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had distributed to a number of medical facilities across the country early this week.

Making the donation on behalf of standard-bearer, Dr Gyader thanked the country’s frontline health workers for their dedication, hard work and sacrifice as the nation contends with the coronavirus.

Dr Gyader said the region is an endemic zone for the cerebrospinal meningitis and drastic measures need to be taken against future occurrences.

More than 30 lives have been lost this year in the Upper West Region as a result of CSM.

Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Osei Kuffour Afreh, who received the items on behalf of the Health Directorate, thanked former President Mahama for the support, pledging that they will put them to good use.

He however called for more support from other philanthropists. Dr Gyader was accompanied by other leading members of the NDC including the Upper West Regional Chairman, Abdul Nasir Saani and National Director of Elections and Parliamentary Candidate for Lawra Constituency, Lawyer Bede Ziedeng.
