Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on the government to fulfill its promise to those who lost their money in the DKM scandal in the Bono-Ahafo Region.

DKM became a major campaign topic for the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) in the Bono-Ahafo in the run-up to the 2016 elections with many people losing their savings.

Members of then opposition NPP falsely claimed that the troubled DKM microfinance company belonged to Mr. Mahama and his wife.

Addressing delegates of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) in Wamfie in the Dormaa East constituency of the Bono-Ahafo Region on Saturday, Mr. Mahama recalled that the NPP promised that when elected in the 2016 elections it was going to retrieve the money for DKM customers who lost their savings.

He was therefore surprised that nearly two years into the NPP administration, that promise has not been fulfilled.

“When we were in office, the NPP lied that DKM belongs to my wife and I Today you are in power and you know who DKM belongs to. You promised that you will collect the people’s money for them when you come into power; please collect their DKM money and give it back to them”, Mr. Mahama said.

Touching on the harsh economic conditions in the country, he said Ghanaians are looking up to the NDC to redeem them from the present hardship.

Mr. Mahama is therefore urged NDC members and supporters to unite and work hard to bring the party back to power in the 2020 elections.

Sounding confident of victory for the NDC in the 2020 presidential election, former president Mahama promised to work hard to reduce the high cost of living in the country as well as provide jobs, when elected.
