GBC reporter Marie Aziz wins GJA award in education

GBC’s Twin City Radio Reporter, Marie Aziz Tunde has won the Education Category Award at the maiden GJA-Western Region Awards Dinner held over the weekend.

The story which won her the award was on the need to highlight on sex education by parents, guardians and society at large.

The story was published and aired last year. Marie Aziz Tunde is well known for dwelling on educative and health storied which, she says, stems from her desire to see lives of people transformed no matter where they live or find themselves.

Speaking in an interview after the event, Mrs Tunde recounted how an encounter with a victim of defilement pushed her to do that particular story.

She said most rape and defilement victims know absolutely nothing about the functions of the various parts of their bodies thus they are easier preys for their culprits.

According to her, most Ghanaian parents find it difficult to talk about sex related issues, adding that the failure to do so comes with adverse effects.

Meanwhile, Citi news’ Kwesi Annim was adjudged Western Regional Journalist of the Year whiles Nana Adwoa Entsuah of Empire FM won the Health Journalist award, Ina Thalia Quansah of the multimedia group swept three awards with Benedicta Brew Monney of Space fm winnig the Female Journalist award among others.

Twin City Radio, Connect FM, Beach FM, Radio 360 and other stations were also given honorary awards for developing local content.
