Gbledi Officially Elevated To Traditional Area Status

Gbledi a community in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region has officially been recognised as a traditional area by the National and the Volta Region House of Chiefs.

In view of the that, the traditional area has been inducted as a paramountcy into the Akpini Traditional Council, an amalgamation of some traditional areas in the Volta Region to which Gbledi belongs.

At the induction ceremony at Kpando, the Chairman of the Council who is also the Fiaga of Wusuta, Togbe Osei Tutu Brempong presented to the chiefs and people the gazette authorised by the National and Volta Region Houses of Chiefs to certify their elevation.

He noted that their elevation came as the result of a research committee set up by the Volta Region House of Chiefs to address their petition for an autonomous traditional area.

He urged the chiefs and people to let their new status be a catalyst for massive infrastructural development in the area.

The Fiaga of Gbledi Traditional Area, Togbe Humatekpor pledged to work hard with the support of his people to ensure that the elevation reflects in the growth of his area and improved livelihood of his people.

He also pledged to contribute his quota towards the progress of the traditional council. The people of Gbledi are part of groups of Ewes who migrated from Notsie in the present day Republic of Togo in a bid to liberate themselves from the oppression of a tyrant King called Agorkoli.

The Gbledi Traditional Area which is situated at the base of Ghana’s highest and popular mountain, Mount Afadza in the Volta Region comprises six divisions and two satellite division.
