Ghana concludes first review of IMF agreement

Ghana has completed its first review of the International Monetary Fund, IMF Programme waiting for approval from the IMF Board.

Addressing a news conference in Accra, the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta said, with Ghana reaching a staff level agreement, it is now strongly positioned to look ahead.

He said Ghanaians should be confident, because with the progress, made so far, the economy will achieve the desired stability.

He reiterated government’s commitment to turn the fortunes of the economy around even as it manages to navigate through the current challenges.

The finance minister said although the Cedi has remained relatively stable this year, adjustment for utility tariffs remain a risk. He said the primary goal of government is to reduce inflation.

He expressed appreciation to stakeholders especially the IMF team for the hard work.

IMF Mission Chief, Stephane Roudet

IMF Mission Chief, Stephane Roudet says Ghana’s fiscal assessment has been strong, as the country is on the verge of dealing with its primary deficits.

Mr. Roudet indicated that the expected second tranche of 600 million dollars will mainly support the country’s 2023 budget provisions.
